Did Pete play Kate?

Revelations that people in the news are or have been keen chess players appear from time to time. Readers would be forgiven for missing the recent claims that Pete Doherty the lead singer of Babyshambles, and ex of Kate Moss was a keen chess player in primary school.

Your correspondent’s forensic research failed to uncover any of his games. A less well known but rather more significant retired chess player is GM Kenneth Rogoff, a former Chief Economist and Director of Research at the IMF and now a Professor of Economics at Harvard. His views have been in great demand recently.

Rogoff competed at a high level for a few years in the 1970s and played against many of the greats of the time including Anatoly Karpov, Ulf Andersson, Ljubomir Ljubojevic and Eugenio Torre.
