Here are the matchups to decide which 4 will join Kramnik, Anand, Svidler and Morozevich in Mexico City this September.
Bareev-Leko
Grischuk-Rublevsky
Aronian-Shirov
Kamsky-Gelfand
If you are one of the players, would you prefer to start the next match ASAP or would you prefer to have a few days / a week off in between? Some cannot wait to get going due to anxiety. Some want to delay it as much as possible due to procrastination 🙂
Which type of player are you?
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Start right away. I hate to wait 🙂
Bareev-Leko
Grischuk-Rublevsky
Aronian-Shirov
Kamsky-Gelfand
“procrastination” !?
I prefer to have the match start as soon as possible. Some last minute preparations just a day or two before the game will not help but just make you tired before the critical games.
My predictions for the match: Kamsky, Shirov, Grischuk, Leko to advance
I’d prefer a few days to rest and study my opponent’s games.
And which player is Hawkman? 😀
Of course about two days in between. It’s not fair to start right away if one of the players comes from a tiring play-off.
But some rythm would be a pre, so a week in between is too much I’d say.
I’d want a couple days off to rest.
My picks:
Bareev-Leko
Grischuk-Rublevsky
Aronian-Shirov
Kamsky-Gelfand
Well it took FIDE more than a year and a half to go from the World Cup qualifier to this first round of matches. Then they go to the more important 2nd round with 2 days between.
Well I guess that makes sense.
Hopefully Kamsky will pick up a little edge from having a few extra days to relax. Aronian must be tired. I flet that Magnus got tired in the blitz games. He must have been exhausted by the time the blitz started. I think there was extra stress and strain on Magnus always trying to catch up.
Hi, Susan
I like the Leko’s style. In France we call him “Mister Solide”. Unuseful to translate into english 🙂

The players surely can’t be as well prepared for the second round (with just a couple of days knowing your next round opponent in some cases) then first round (they knew their opponent for a couple of years!)
This happens like in the World Cup, but in old candidate matches there were months between to prepare in.
I am the procrastination type
GATA KAMSKY will be WORLD CHAMPION!
My picks winners capatilized:
Bareev-LEKO
GRISCHUK-Rublevsky
ARONIAN-Shirov
KAMSKY-Gelfand
It would depend on which player I was. Kamsky, Leko, and Grischuk have had more time to rest than anybody else, so I would be rearing to go if I were in their shoes. Maybe a day or so to check up my opponent’s openings, but no more.
Aronian, Shirov, and Gelfand’s matches all had to go into overtime, so I would want more time to rest if I were they.
My predictions: Leko, Grischuk, Aronian, Kamsky.
