The Ashburn Chess Center is offering a carefully structured, well-proven training program for people of all ages. The program, called the Road to Mastery, was brought from Russia, traditionally the world center of chess culture, by International Master Nikolay Andrianov.

IM Andrianov has coached several world champions and holds a Bachelor’s degree in chess training from the Moscow Central Institute. His teaching system has been successfully adopted in Russia, the Philippines, Greece, Indonesia and Arizona. Notable among his current students are several national and state champions.

Assisting Mr. Andrianov and the Ashburn Chess Center’s staff of experienced chess coaches is Herky del Mundo, president of the Chess Center. His son, FIDE Master Paolo del Mundo, one of the highest-rated chess players in the DC area, is the lead coach. Paolo was trained by IM Andrianov in a similar program in the Philippines which produced two international grandmasters.

The program is structured in 12 grades or levels of achievement, each composed of 10 weekly 2-hour learning sessions. Each student is assigned a level according to his or her needs. Tuition is $250 for a complete series of 10 sessions—a total of 20 hours of instruction and fun. Club members receive a 20% discount.

The Road to Mastery will begin February 24 at the Ashburn Chess Center. Classes will be held weekday evenings and Saturdays.

The Ashburn Chess Center is located in Suite 120, 44927 George Washington Blvd. in Ashburn.
