The Candidates Final was played in Saint Petersburg in March 1995 and dominated by Polgar who won the match 5½-1½ without losing a single game.

The championship match was played in Jaén, (Spain) in 1996 and, like the Candidates Tournament, dominated by Polgar who won 6 games (against 2) and in the end defeated champion Xie Jun by four points. The match was set for 16 matches, but ended early, when Polgar reached 8.5 points.

With this title, the World Chess Triple Crown (World Blitz, Rapid, Classical Championship) was completed.
Shutting up the doubters
Yesterday, I showed the results of the Candidates Tournament in 1992. Above are the results of the Candidates Final Match in 1995 and the Women’s World Championship Match in 1996. This title in 1996 completed the first ever World Chess Triple Crown (World Rapid, Blitz, and Classical Championships). Magnus completed his own Triple Crown 18 years later in 2014.
The reason why I decided to enter the Women’s World Championship cycle was many believed that playing against men is easier and I became the #1 woman player in the world at age 15 because I chose to play against men. FIDE at that time agreed with this nonsensical assumption that it was easier to play against men. Therefore, they outrageously decided to give all other women players an extra 100 rating points to punish me since I only played against men.
After hearing this nonsense for years, I decided to shut the whiners up and prove the point that I can play against men or women with the same strength, and it was not more difficult to play against women. After winning the Women’s World Championship and completed the Triple Crown, the chatter about this nonsense stopped 🙂
The Women’s World Championship was scheduled for best of 16 games. The match ended after 13 games when I scored more than 8 points.
