Brilliant! One note, Michael C.M., 4. Qc6 is check. Believe me, I am no one to preach about typos, but when I saw your answer I was puzzled because the white must always give check (any move without leads to 1… Qg2#), so I was a little perplexed when your correct answer did not include the “+” on the fourth move.

This variation appears to enable Black hold out the longest following 1. Qa6+:
1. … Kd7
2. Qb5+ Kc8 (Kc7)
3. Qc6+ Kb8
4. Rxb6+ axb6
5. Qxb6+ Ka8 (Kc8 6.Qc6+ Kb8 7. Rb1+ Ka7 8. Qb7#)
6. Qa6+ Kb8
7. Rb1+ Kc7
8. Qc6#
I liked this one. it was moderately simple in the sense that there were not a lot of complex different lines.
and it still had some need to be careful.
I got some of it. not all the complexes. I give myself 1/2 point. I am not keeping track. just my 1/2 point for the day.
More like this one is getting my old juices working again. I dont remember but about 5 or 10 years ago I practiced puzzles and I got much better and it really improved my over the board play. Recently I have noticed more enthusiasm in my play to find the combinations in internet blitz. that is good.
Celtic not Qb5 but
2.Qb7 Ke8
Qe7 mate
qa6+ and rxb6 later should win easily. Its nice that black always has a ++ option and still cant do anything!
