All the pieces of the puzzles have been put together. It is Shirov versus Kamsky in the final. It is like fire versus ice and it should be a very interesting match. It will be 4 games and not 2.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of each player? Who do you give an edge to in the following categories?
– Opening
– Middlegame
– Endgame
– Tactic
– Agressive play
– Positional play
– Nerve
– Psychology
– Intangibles
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
You read my mind. I was looking some of their past games, and I think I know something about their history now. 🙂
– Opening – Shirov has it slightly better for his strong initiative-taking choices
– Middlegame – Shirov because he pursues the initiative and is capable of taking some advantageous tradeoffs better than Kamsky;
– Endgame – If Kamsky keeps it cool, it’s even;
– Tactic – Shirov because Kamsky hardly gets a chance at it;
– Agressive play – Shirov all the way;
– Positional play – Shirov will accept the gambits and can cause havoc with precise use of pawns and pieces;
– Nerve – Shirov doesn’t sweat it;
– Psychology – Shirov seems to have a lead here, as Kamsky has made some dumb mistakes in their past games which means that he has been dominated;
– Intangibles – In recent years Kamsky has not only studied a little of Medicine and Law, but also has practiced a good deal of chess by playing online, in strong tournaments, and against modern computers, so he should have improved upon his past self. He should be a little more relaxed than Shirov I think;
Shirov should have 80% of chance of taking the title I guess. Too bad because I root for Kamsky.
i wonder who does nigel short root for?
Opening: Shirov
Middlegame: Kamsky
Endgame: Shirov
Aggressive play: Kamsky (Shirov is sometime too exuberant and speculative and pays the price, albeit after some entertaining fireworks)
This should be a great match.
When (GMT) will they get this match underway?
Gata Kamsky all the way!!!!!
The Kiddie Show is Over!!!!
Opening – Clearly Shirov, Kamsky’s openings have been suspect since his return.
Middle – Kamsky, by a very slight edge. he plays the whole board.
End Game – pretty even
Agressive Play – Fire
positional play – different styles – no advantage
nerve – kamsky Killer instinct
Psych – kamsky – very determined fighter
intangibles – in the back of Shirov’s mind he must be worried abOut kamsky’s DAD, kicking his ass
Why can’t both of them be winners? And – is Kamsky married?
Rustam will show up with boxing gloves and a shirt that says on the back
I’m ready to rumble
Shirov will hide in the men’s room.
All kidding aside. This is going to be a good match. I have no idea who will win. I will definitely be here cheering for Kamsky all the way.
Game time has been 5 am New York City time.
I think the first game is Thursday. They get a rest day on Wednesday.
I know it is always disappointing to lose. But I hope that both Magnus and Karjakin are happy with their results. There were over 100 other players who started this tournament and fell off earlier including people like Ivanchuk etc.
Shirov used to be awesome and then the Kasparov thing seemed to knock the steam out of his fire on board. He really slumped for a long time. Now he is playing like he used to play. I think he was also discouraged because he could never seem to defeat Kasparov. Anyway this is his opportunity to shine once again. Same for Kamsky. Only one will return to the old former glory. Both deserve to win.
As an American I will be cheering for my fellow American. Kamsky all the way.
Like many of the others, I would think that Shirov is technically a slightly superior player but one big factor is the intangible one. I think Kamsky is the more steady player that is his play from day to day remains stable. Shirov can be a world beater one day and seemingly unrecognizable the following day. The one favorable sign for his fans is that he seems to be a hot streak and that bodes well for him.
Shirov will win. We only hate the Americans.
Did anyone else pull their hair out when they read the comment “why can’t both of them be winners” ideas like that retard world development. Heck, give all the kids A’s on tests. Pass all the student drivers. Who needs winners and losers? everyone should be a winner. lmao.
