Aronian at -1.
Aronian at -1. I expected Gelfand to be the dog here.
The biggest surprise is people are still calling it a World Championship.
None of these things are terribly surprising. Maybe not every tournament has a big surprise after 5 rounds.
Grischuk and Gelfand in a tie for 2nd is a half-surprise by now.
But if they manage well against the two favorites, that would become a big surprise, indeed!!!
So we shall see… verily! 🙂
or leko winning all his games !!!
Svidler in last = no surprise
Gelfand in a tie for 2nd.
I expected (and still expect) him to be in one of the bottom two spots by tournament end. I think he will lose to Kramnik today.
Grischuk is not a surprise to me. I don’t really understand why so many people have been negative about his chances. If this guy concentrates, he can do things.
Aronian is also not really a surprise. This guy is overrated. Remember, he could barely beat a sixteen year old in a match.
Svidler is the second biggest surprise. I expected him to be more solid than this.
Early days yet.
Svidler is the biggest surprise. The second surprise is the good performance by Grischuk, so far. Gelfand is such a superb solid player, not a surprise at all. About Aronian, I think he is overrated, so his standings come at no surprise to me.
1. Gelfand -2
2. Leko -1
aronian -1
The biggest suprise? No major scandals.
Brad Hoehne
Svidler in last place for sure is the biggest surprise.
I would not have expected Peter Svidler to be in last place at this juncture.
That sixteen year old Aronian barely beat is the guy everyone thinks will be champion someday. Or is he overrated as well?
Aronian at -1
Where is Topalov Veselin? The real World Chess Champion. All of these guys are lamo patzers compared to him!!!
He may be busy in finding wires in toilet.
aronian at -1 is the biggest surprise
To mark s.
Yes, someday. But not at 16. Even Bobby was far short of Tal at 16.
If we put Carlsen into Mexico, would he be a serious favourite to win? I don’t think so.
Yet Aronian is supposed to be the third favourite and the dark horse.
For me, the biggest surprise was Kramnik’s piece sac vs. Morozevich, in the Catalan opening, no less. And I must say it was a pleasant surprise.
Hi,
Aronian -1.

Aronia really looks a bit worn out in the videos. Even after his win against Leko.
Could you explain me how it is possible to be overrated? Thanks.
If Aronian looks worn out after 5 rounds in a tournament he had time enough to prepare for, he’s getting old already at the age of 25. At least it’s not an excuse, but something to worry about for his fans.
Kasparow never was without fire in his eyes, a predator, he was of another planet than these youngsters.
everybody, review your chess history.
gelfand is a championship material, as evidenced among others by his 90’s interzonal victories.
he will win this championship.
mark my word.
Of course Gelfand is championship material: he’s playing there!
But we will mark your word if you like as for the outcome you’re a bit over-enthusiastic. He won’t win such a tournament, for the same reason as you mentioned: chess history. He never did win in such a field!
