This Sturgeon was caught on the Willamette River just below Oregon City two weeks ago. It weighed out at over 1,000 lbs and measured out at 11’1″. It was 56″ around the girth and took over 6 and a half hours for the 4 guys taking turns at the reeling it in. This sturgeon is still alive, just worn out from the fight. They turned him loose after the photo.
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Why didn’t eat the fish?
I know, after 6.5 hours the fish is probably going to die anyway. So they let it go and it sinks to the bottom…useless!
I know…that’s some mighty fine eatin’! Especially after six hours!
And the roe makes excellent caviar
That fish is dead for sure. Not a fair fight. 6 hours of torture. If they weren’t going to keep it they should have turned it loose.
appaling
dont torture animals
I like my fish with fava beans.
Pass it on.
What they didn’t know was that fish was actually a stealth Russian submarine filled with circus midgets. Call the press.
‘appaling…dont torture animals’
Exactly right! What sort of sick, vicious ‘pleasure’ do people get from such ‘recreations’ as duck shooting, hunting, fox hunting, ‘recreational’ fishing, whaling, etc.? All should be banned.
Why does a considerable proportion of humankind just want to destroy everything it sees?
Someday they’ll have the oceans all fished out. What then?
Praising such a ‘big’ catch is a mentality that is surely helping to destroy this planet.
A disgusting spectacle.
This was fun? Beneficial? Idiotic? Moronic? Barbaric?
Hint – the last 3.

Obviously, you are one of those Ecco-robots who know nothing of the natural order of things. Before supermarkets, we had to hunt. Now here is some food for thought: All the food you eat was raised in cruel and cramped corporate farms. These animals are sick and often abused. Animals hunted in the wild had completely happy and worry free lives. Both sets of animals must die to feed humanity. The hunted animals are healthier and their death merciful. Why don’t you join the human race and embrace the fact that you must eat animals to live?
Most vegetarians have disorders brought on by their political beleifa ns eating habits. Wise up Anon! Be Realistic and thank the hunter and the farmer when you eat your Pizza or that piece of meat with potato. We keep you and supermarket alive you ignorant git!
Chess sniper, you’re the ignorant git.
It’s obvious I’m talking about recreational stuff, not what is or was necessary. Just infliction of totally unnecessary pain, injury and fear for the pleasure (not need) of it.
I do eat a limited amount of meat. Not all is raised under the abusive systems you describe (and if I knew which was, I would not buy it). The abusive systems you describe should also be outlawed. I do not mind paying a bit more for humanely raised meat.
I never buy pizza on my own account. Expensive junk food.
You haven’t explained what you are going to do when the oceans are fished out, as is rapidly happening. Or when the whales become extinct if Japan has its way. Answers here would be more productive than your off-target criticism.
You’re the one who needs to wise up. Wake up, man!
These Sturgeons can be quite old – literally hundreds of years old, though she/he may be tired out, she/he may not necessarily be dead – what is interesting is that they caught the fish in this river – a well fished place and not some isolated place.
