THE NEW YORK TIMES!
The New York Times Co., in the latest bad news for the struggling US newspaper industry, reported on Wednesday that both print and online advertising revenue declined in November.
The Times said total company revenue fell 13.9 percent in November compared with the same month a year ago while advertising revenue decreased by 20.9 percent.
It said advertising revenue for the New York Times Media Group declined 21.2 percent in November from a year ago as national, retail and classified ad revenue all fell amid the general economic slowdown.
Print advertising revenue has been declining steadily at newspapers across the United States and the Times and other dailies have been looking to online advertising to help offset the losses on the print side.
But the Times reported that Internet advertising revenue for its News Media Group decreased four percent in November, although it was up 10.9 percent for the first 11 months of the year compared with the same period in 2007.
It said advertising revenue at the About Group, which includes About.com, ConsumerSearch.com and other websites, decreased 3.5 percent.
Total Internet revenue decreased 2.6 percent in November and total Internet advertising revenue was down 3.8 percent for the month, the Times said.
The Times’s Internet businesses include NYTimes.com, About.com, Boston.com and other websites.
It said Internet businesses accounted for 12.1 percent of total revenue in November compared with 10.7 percent of total revenue in November 2007.
In the one bit of good news, the Times said circulation revenue increased by 4.2 percent in November and traffic increased to its websites.
The Times said that according to Nielsen Online the New York Times Co. had the 10th-largest presence on the Web in November with 55 million unique visitors in the United States, up 11 percent from November 2007.
It said NYTimes.com had 20.9 million unique visitors in November compared with 18.9 million in November 2007, maintaining its position as the number one website in the United States.
Besides the flagship New York Times, the New York Times Co. also owns the International Herald Tribune, The Boston Globe, 16 other daily newspapers and other properties.
“no love for kamsky?”
Who? Rustam?
That guy is a freaking nut-cake!
If women would play topless the list might be coed.
Anand being tops is no surprise. What do you expect with the whole of India voting?
Topalov has done very well in the second half of 2008, but had a poor first half. Therefore I voted for Anand.
Also Anand finally putting away that a**hole Kramnik must be worth a vote in itself!!
I voted for Aronian, because there is no chance to vote for him.
But certainly Anand is the man of the year, right.
okay
Kamsky???
What the hell did Kamsky win this year?
I voted for “someone else” because I couldn’t vote for Aronian. He had a pretty good year winning Wijk Aan Zee, 3rd in Morelia-Linares, winning Amber (both Rapid and blindfold), winning the Karen Asrian memorial, 2nd in Bilbao, winning the Sochi Grand Prix, winning the Olympic gold and 2nd in Pearl Spring (Nanjing). His ONLY “bad” tournement was the Sofia M-Tel. Please show me another ELITE player with better performance throughout the year of 2008.
I really don’t understand, Anand won the match, ok, but for the rest of the year played few games.
If we judge the player who got the BEST RESULTS in 2008 (not the strongest, the nicest ecc) it must be between Ivanchuk (MTEL, Tal Memorial, blitz ch, second Aerosvit and many more good result), Topalov (Bilbao, China, second MTEL) Aronian and Carlsen.
That’s my opinion.
