The art of chess is a family affair

FAMILIES can learn how to play chess at Bendigo Art Gallery today.

The Kings and Queens: Family Chess Day, from 10am to 2pm, will start with an introductory workshop teaching people how to play chess.

Education officer Margot Feast said Bendigo Chess Club Masters would teach children how to improve their game.

She said playing chess on normal sets indoors and on a giant set outdoors, if weather permits, would be a feature of the day, followed by a session using art materials for children to make their own 3D chess pieces.

Ms Feast said the day coincided with two chess exhibitions showing at the art gallery – The Art of Chess and Your Move: Australian artists play chess.

“The family day is to promote the exhibitions as well as attract children and families to the gallery,’’ she said.
