“Its Ne7+, Bxe7, followed by Rg1. Qxg1, Qxg1, Bxe7 and white wins eaily from there…” Sorry, this is a wrong calculation! 1) No need for black to play Qxg1?? – Bxf6 is a much better reply which leaves white in a devestating position. 2) No time for white playing Bxe7 after the catastrophal mistake Qxg1 as white’s answer Qxg1 is mate. 😉
So best move is the only winning move (posted many times above) Rg1 (I think!). Why just “I think”? No one mentioned that black is not forced to capture the rook. Best may be 1. Rg1, Rfe8 which leaves white with some material up (QN vs. RRP) but there may still be a long way to go and black can try. Is there any direct winning idea here? 2. Rxg6, fxg6! (giving the square f7 to the king seems best) 3. ? (white is better!?)
Rg1
Rg1 🙂
Ne7+ Bxe7
Rg1
Yeah, Rg1 looks like a winner. It eventually draws the bishop away from the covering e7 allowing the mate by Ne7.
I don’t know about the Rg1 line
1. Rg1 Bxg1
1. Ne7+ Bxe7
2. Rg1 Re8
Rg1 seems to do the trick
Going Ne7 first doesn’t work
as White loses 3 pieces for the Q
With Rg1 its only the R for the Q
KShah,
Ne7 mates after Bg1.

2 Nh6++

Jochen,
You are correct, black need not take the rook at g1, however, this is the line I would follow as white.
1. Rg1 Rfe8 (only other move h6/5)
2. Rg6 fg6
3. Qh4 Rc7 (to parry Ne7)
4. Nh6 Kf8
5. Ng4 h5 (to parry Qh6)
6. Qg5 Kf7
7. Ne5 Kf8
8. Qh6 followed by mate.
