After 4 rounds, there are some huge upsets in various sections of the 2009 Supernationals. Most notable is in the top section K-12 where 2nd seed IM Marc Tyler Arnold (2425) losing in round 4 to Troy Daly (2145). That means that the highly anticipated matchup of the top 2 seeds New Yorkers IM Robert Hess and IM Marc Tyler Arnold will not happen.

Tommy is the 11th seed in his section K-5 and he is 4-0 so far. Unfortunately, he is facing one of his best friends Christopher Wu (1950) in round 5. Oddly enough, even though both of them have won multiple national titles in their age group and they sometimes train together (the last time was at Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX last summer), they have never faced each other in a rated tournament game. (Update: Tommy lost)
