g4!!
… With the idea of… ?
I don’t see any clear win after
1. g4
while i see much more incisive
1. Rc5
after which i think White is better, threatening mate with Qh5 and the exchange rook-queen.
b7 looks playable – so I’d probably brave that over the board.
1.b7!
[1.Qg3+ Kf7 (1…Kh5? 2.b7 Qb1+ (2…Rxc7 3.Qxc7 Qb1+ 4.Kh2 Rd1 5.Qf7+ Qg6 6.g4+ Kh4 7.b8Q+-) 3.Kh2 g5 4.Rxd7 Rxd7 5.b8Q+-) 2.Qd6 Ke8 3.Rxd7 Rxd7–+; 1.g4 Qd5+ 2.Kh2 Rxc7 3.bxc7 Rc8; 1.Rxd7 Rxd7–+; 1.Qc4 Qe5–+]

Pharaoh
I want to eventually mate with Q-G5. To that end, I need to drive his queen off of that rank. B-F4 covers 1 more square on the rank with the advantage that it looks like all I am doing is protecting my rook. Depending on his next move being benign, my next move would be to attack his queen, P-G4.
If he is like 2/3 of the people I have played with, he will be more concerned with keeping his queen on the board than paying attention, and I would have him.
Of course, that wouldn’t work with Susan, but I don’t see any danger in those moves, and I can’t think of any better way to go.
Am i blind?
I can’t see what happens after
1. b7 .. Rxc7
1.b7 Rxc7
2.Qg3+
After 1.Bf4? almost every move for Black seems to win outright (1…e5, 1…Rxc7, 1…Qb1+, 1…h6, even 1…Kf7). What would be an example of a “benign” move?
Pharaoh,
Please don’t post computer generated analysis. It ruins the fun for everyone.
People that want to consult computers are perfectly capable of doing that for themselves.
1. Qg3+ Kh5
2. Rc5 Qxc5
3. Bxc5
1. Qg3+ Kh5
2. Rc5 Qxc5
3. Bxc5
I think I disagree with every single one of these moves. Improvements:
— 1.b7
— 1…Kf7
— 2.b7
— 2…e5
— 3.Qg4#
b7 gives white a clear +-. Of course black can’t take RxR because then Qg3+ picks up *both* rooks.
White is best, but I can’t see the killing white variation after 1.b7 e5! Maybe I’m blind, but …

You’re not alone, AH. I like White here too, but I don’t see a crusher line either.
