1. Rd8+ Kh7 2. g6+
Very cute. I wasted about 30 seconds trying to make 1.Rd8 work, but the king kept hiding on h7 and g6- then it hit me
1. Qf8! Kh7 (Kf8 2.Rd8 Ke7 3.Bf6#)
2. g6 Kg6 (Qg6 and fg6 below)
3. Qg8 Ng7 (Kh6 and Kf6 below)
4. Qg7! Kg7
5. Rg4 with a double check that leaves white up a rook for three pawns. All the alternatives above are short mates or lose the queen. At move 3, black had two alternatives:
3. …..Kh6
4. Bc1! drawing the knight away from protecting the black queen who is now toast- or
3. …..Kf6
4. Rd3 Qe5
5. Be5 with an overwhelming material advantage.
At move 2 above, black had two alternatives:
2. …..Qg6
3. Qh8! Kh8
4. Rd8 Kh7
5. Rh8# A kind of mate I have delievered myself over the board on more than one occasion, and have had delivered against me, too. It was the mate I was trying to deliver with 1.Rd8, but failed to find a forcing line. Also, black had
2. …..fg6
3. Qh8 with the exact same mate as above to follow.
Qf8 / Looks simple enough…
Hello
It’s easy
1. Qf8+!!, Kh7 ( if Kxf8 2. Rd8# )
2. Qh6+ , Kg8
3. Rd8#
Greetings from Spain
Qf8, Kxf8,
Rd8, Ke7,
Bf6++.
It’s nice to have finally solved a puzzle here without my brain hurting. 🙂
Susan u usin a tricky pawn!!! hehe.
white wins with 1.Qf8+
if 1…Kxf8
2.Rd8+ Ke7
3.Bf6#
if 1…Kh7
2.g6+!! Qxg6(or fg)
3.Qh8+ Kxh8
4.Rd8++ Kh7
5.Rh8#
1. Qf8+ Kh7 (… Kxf8 2. Rd8#)
2. g6+
2. … Qxg6 or fxg6
3. Qh8+ Kxh8
4. Rd8+ Kh7
5. Rh8#
2. … Kxg6
3. Qg8+
3. … Kf6
4. Rg4+ picking up Black’s Queen
3. … Kh6
4. Bc1+ picking up Black’s Queen
3. … Ng7
4. Qxg7+ (threat 5. Qxg3) Kxg7
5. Rg4+ picking up Black’s Queen
Rd8+ ½
Hello,
In my other post have an error
1. Qf8+ , Rxf8
2. Rd8+ , Re7
3. Bf6#
The other line is correct.
Greetings from Spain
1. Qf8 +- Kxf8
2. Rd8+ Ke7
3. Bf6++
Queen sacrifice theme. If the sacrifice is accepted, Black dies quickly.
1. Qf8+ KxQ
2. Rd8+ Ke7
3. Bf6#
If not accepted, Black dies more slowly, for example,
1. Qf8+ Kh7
2. g6+ Kxg6
3. Qg8+ Ng7
4. QxN+ Kf5
5. QxQ
with variant
2. … fxg
3. Rd7+ BxR
4. Qh8#
Mark
Qf8+
I think Qf8+, KxQ; Rd8+, Ke7;Bf6++
1. Qf8+ wins.
If 1…. Qxf8 then white wins by 2. Rd8+ Ke7 3. Bf6#
So black must play 1. … Kh7 after which he can avoid immediate mate. But then 2. g6+ will lead to the win of decisive material for black.
i would proceed like this:
1. Qf8+ Kxf8
2. Rd8+ Ke7
3. Bf6#
or 1. … Kh7
2. g6+ Qxg6/fxg6
3. Qh8+ Kxh8
4. Rd8+ Kh7
5. Rh8#
a tricky pawn indeed. greets, jan
