Bulgarian 2004 World Champion, Antoaneta Stefanova, has won the 2012 women‘s World Chess Rapid Championship.

Stefanova tied five and won six games, collecting a total of 8.5 points.

Her closest rival, 2008 world champion Alexandra Kosteniuk from Russia is second, followed by India’s Koneru Humpy, and Ukraine’s Kateryna Lahno.

The Women‘s World Rapid and Blitz Championship 2012 is taking place from May 30 to June 6 in Batumi, Georgia. The event is organized and conducted by the ACP and the Georgian Chess Federation, and is approved by FIDE. FIDE rules without the unpopular zero tolerance rule – the game is lost by the player who arrives at the chessboard after her flag has fallen.

Another tournament of 15 rounds will be held Monday and Tuesday as the 2012 women‘s World Chess Blitz Championship.
