Saint Louis Classic Offers GM, IM Norm Chances

SAINT LOUIS (November 20, 2013) — The Saint Louis Classic, featuring both an IM and a GM norm tournament, will kick off at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis on Thursday, November 21. The event offers opportunities for some of the country’s top players to get one step closer toward attaining the coveted titles of Grandmaster and International Master.

The GM Norm event is headlined by reigning U.S. Women’s Champion, GM Irina Krush, who recently achieved her final GM norm at the Baku Open in Azerbaijan. IM Darwin Yang and IM Justin Sarkar each will be looking to achieve his third and final GM norm at the Saint Louis Classic.

In both the GM and IM norm event, players will need to achieve a final score of 6.5/9 to capture the norm.

The nine-round, round-robin tournaments are scheduled to be held November 21-27 at the Chess Club in Saint Louis, and the games will be broadcast live at www.uschesschamps.com.
