A chess club that opened less than a year ago in St. Louis will be host for the U.S. Chess Championship next month.
It’s the most prestigious tournament in the nation.
The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of St. Louis opened in July after a more than $1 million renovation to a 112-year-old Central West End building.
Two dozen of the country’s best chess players will compete May 7-17 for about $200,000 in total prize money.
