ALDAN – William Penn School District students used skill and strategy to compete in the First Move Pawn Chess Tournament last Thursday.

Four third-grade students from Colwyn Elementary School, and two second-graders and two third-graders from Aldan Elementary School, participated along with 18 students from the Philadelphia School District.

Quadir Lewis of Colwyn School made it to the final round but lost to Jonathon Skoles of Solis Cohen Elementary School in Northeast Philadelphia.

The program is sponsored by Sprint and the NFL. The winner received an all expenses paid trip for two to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii, Superintendent Dana Bedden said last week.
