The Susan Polgar Institute for Chess Excellence (SPICE) is the model for the highest standard in chess education. With strong support by Texas Tech, the institute is poised to become the world’s premier center for chess research, education, development and outreach.
Through SPICE, Texas Tech has focused the resources of a major university and Big 12 Conference member on providing scholarships for players, conducting research into various aspects of the game, championing scholastic, college and women’s chess and housing an outreach program bringing chess to enthusiasts of all ages.
The SPICE Mission
· To promote chess as a vehicle for enriching education
· To support and promote competitive chess at college level
· To recruit outstanding undergraduate and graduate students
· To bring national and international recognition to TTU and TTUHSC
· To be the leader in promoting women’s chess

There should be more universities following ttu’s footsteps. This is a great idea.
A very manly king you all have there in that picture.
Will you offer this one in pink?
What research has TTU published into aspects of chess?
“What research has TTU published into aspects of chess?”
Oh, one can imagine what the study topics can be:
1. The lunatic fringe chess personalities that harass chess celebrities.
2. The different ways mental patients have used chess as an excuse to meet children.
3. The misuse of Internet by above mentioned mental patients.
4. The study of the relationship between Laugherty, Sloani, Roberti, Goichi, Stalin, Lenin, Putin, the Devil, and the New York Times: how can one planet produce so many stupid entities such as these and yet they manage to find time to harass chess celebrities.
There is plenty to study.
