What are the $-prizes for the SPICE Cup? I have not seen any information about that.
Which of your ‘sponsors and supporters’ are providing the $-prizes, as opposed to ‘good and services to the value of …’ and ‘best wishes’.
I’m sure that most readers of this blog could be listed unde supporters. Good luck.
The appearance fees and conditions are always kept confidential. What planet are you from? This is not a weekend swiss. This is an invitational.
Most invitational tournaments don’t disclose the prize funds or conditions at all because each player gets a different rate. Some tournaments don’t even offer prize funds, just conditions. I think anon 12:00 is thinking about tournaments like Miami Open or National Open.
I remember Susan mentioned somewhere in her blog that the budget for a tournament like this is over $50,000.
Strange that I should be asked what planet I am from, just because I ask about prizes.
I hope there is some financial transparency somehwere. If I am going to sponsor an event, I would want to know how my $$s are being spent.
You sponsoring an event? Yeah right. Crawl back to your cave troll. It’s between the players and organizers and it’s none of your business.
anon 12:00, most invitational round robin events don’t announce prizes. This is very common in the professional chess circuit. The organizers and the players often agree on certain conditions or fees. There’s nothing wrong with players protecting their interests.
Can anyone join in?
I think the fact is that Susan Polgar’s sponsors are paying 10 players to stage a Category 15 event, so that they can say there has been one.
There may not be any prizes or performance bonuses: we just don’t know and probably are not going to be told.
I can confirm the budget is around $50,000 including prizes and conditions. ASB just stepped forward this morning as the latest sponsor of the SPICE Cup.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar
