HYDERABAD: A special convocation will be held in the city to bestow an honorary doctorate on world chess champion Viswanathan Anand.
The honour which was denied to Anand on August 23, due to an error on part of the ministry of human resource development, will now be given in the presence of dignitaries from across the country, officials of University of Hyderabad (UoH) said. According to university officials, Anand on Wednesday informed them that he would come to the city for the convocation before he flies abroad within a fortnight.

Earlier on Tuesday, Vishy had informed Kapil Sibal, the Union HRD minister and D Purandeswari, Union HRD minister for state that he would attend the convocation on a date convenient to him. According to university vice-chancellor Seyed E Hasnain, the convocation will be scheduled as per Anand’s convenience. “We have left the date on him completely. Anand’s agent is expected to get back to the university to fix a date,” Hasnain said.
