Chess champs and more news from St. Joseph’s Catholic School

Congratulations to the Middle School Chess Team who placed second in the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) State Chess Tournament held on October 22nd in Orangeburg, SC. Competing in the team’s SCISA debut performance were Christian Baliker, Gil Gonzales, Benjamin Haertel, J.P. Kiser, Luke Lepak, Austin Mattison, Andrew Schatteman, Charles Vandross, Ethan Veideman, Kalib Williams, and Kamden Williams. Congratulations also to the four high scorers: Christian Baliker, Gil Gonzales, Luke Lepak, and Austin Mattison, with Luke Lepak placing second overall in the individual rankings.

SJCS theatre students recently attended the South Carolina Theatre Association One-Act Festival hosted by USC-Upstate (Spartanburg). Students had the opportunity to attend one-act plays produced and performed by other high school throughout the state.

Senior Chelsea Lawyer directed St. Joseph’s one-act festival entry, “Snow Angel,” which included the following cast members: Shelly Mamo, Theresa Krupka, Tara McGarry, Alex Panuccio, Blythe Snead, Mary Grace Carey, Ericka Reyes, Christina Novotny, Klyn Carr, Sean Harkins, Alan Thomas, Seth Kiser, Jacob Hanna, Will Dameron, Noah Davis, and Ian Miller. The play was stage managed by Allison Gurn. Four SJCS actors were recognized as being All-Star Cast Members: Theresa Krupka, Shelly Mamo, Blythe Snead, and Seth Kiser.

In addition, four SJCS students also participated in the audition process for South Carolina colleges and universities.
