Wesley So the Great Filipino Lion!!
Excellent!! Keep up the good work!!
We are here to support you!!
One more and hhoohooo hummm!!!
That was a brilliant game by Wesley! I think its his best game in this tournament. Go Wesley!!!
-rj
Philippine Grandmaster Wesley So is a class act.
He could have played in the A group now, but he showed his talents to the doubters and still played in C regardless.
He could have easily lost ELO points playing against lower rated opponents.
But Wesly showed how good he really is across the board by taming an almost 2600 GM Tiger!
Go Wesley!
Perhaps Tiger may have done better playing Black – Tiger’s Modern!
wesley is a very good player. but there is no need to brag about ones achievements and dissed someone else’s. fans like that anonymous-Saturday, January 31, 2009 10:42:00 AM CST. makes a good person like wesley look bad. i think you need to be invited to participate in the group A category. there were no doubters.
Woh yeah! Congratulations, Wesley!
Anos 11:03.
Nobody is dissing anybody. You are being judgemental and the one dissing. OK?
People have every right to their opinion and to express their delight and enthusiasm.
They do not reflect on the Filipino GM Wesley So’s character at all.
If Corus assigned the lower rated Hou Yifan to the B section, why C for Wesley?
Capisze? Now go back to your shell dissa.
and anos 11:03…
filipino grandmaster wesley so is not a very good chessplayer as what you say.
he is a great chessplayer, a super grandmaster, and soon to be super 2700 player.
now go back to your cage.
Very good game. Reminds me of the young Fischer.
Started well for Tiger, till that 17th move (f4). Wesley’s 18th move was momentous, a double attack. Tiger’s 20th move was a blunder, resulting to the excellent moves in 22… Nd4+ Everything is history from there. Even the decoy in 28…Rxc3 is masterful. Oh, I mean grandmasterful. Nice, very nice game.
hey anon, Saturday, January 31, 2009 11:22:00 AM CST.. its not really wesley’s character in question but yours and the way you portray his achievements.. you try to make bragging rights when you do not have any faintest idea whether wesley cares whatever group he is. you try to downplay the elo ratings of his lesser opponents. yi fan was already playing last years group b while its so’s first time to play in corus.
hey anon-Saturday, January 31, 2009 11:22:00 AM CST
your “now go back to your cage” very much reflects your personality. quite lame.
Hey anos 11:52.
You are clueless don’t you know that? You are the one dissing around here, and we do not care what you think.
We are enjoying chess and sharing feelings and opinions.
So, in respect for others, STFU already. OK?
Go back where you came from and put your head between your legs to get blood down your brains, and KYA for punishment.
and anos 11:52…
you are the one who started dissing here. me thinks because your tiger got beat bad by wesley.
it is ok, ok? the other guy is right, just get your head between your knees and inhale deeply.
that should make you feel good. now go away.
no ones dissing anybody..its just a statement base from someone else’s comments..this is a comment forum..no one is taking anything away from wesleys achievements.
will you listen to yourself and read what you wrote, man.
you dissed that man who was rejoicing for wesley.
he was not dissing you.
but you dissed him.
comprende, senior?
So needs at least a draw against Howell. If he loses and Giri wins again, Giri might be declared champ since he only has one loss.
Boring childish discussion here.
Two persons arguing about other players than temselves and very nervous about claiming some truth, how interesting.
According to ChessBase, Giri has just become the world’s youngest GM. The former youngest GM and the new youngest GM fighting for the top spot in a tournament. Very nice.
Giri is an Indian name?
Where did he get his other norms, anybody know?
I think even So losses and Giri wins, So will still get the top spot because of more wins than Giri. In my SB computation So will have 0.50pt more than Giri. Hope Im correct.
He’s Russian-Nepalese. He’s been in Russian tournaments, I guess.
retspan11… sir, this is cumulative scoring. the losses won’t affect the score in case of a tie. they will apply the next possible option(s) and wesley so is highly in favor.
The stupid argument above is why there should be content moderation.
Anyway, congratulations to Wesley. He was invited to Corus C in the middle of last year when his rating was still in the mid 2500s. It wasn’t his…or the organizer’s fault…that he was in the C section.
Here’s hoping that he makes waves next year in B.
According to the ChessBase site, So needs a draw with Howell (another young gun?) to get a clear win. The caption in So’s picture also says he’s Indonesian.
GM So is very impressive and I’m happy that the future of chess will include many great games between So and Carlsen. Both players play with a deep understanding of the game reminiscent of Fischer and Capablanca.
While Wesley only needs a draw in the final round, the worst thing he can do is to play for one. His nature is to go for a win, and it would be disastrous for him to come out looking for half a point.
Besides, he’s playing white and has Howell’s number.
Give us another brilliant game, Wesley!
CAPISZE? Is this a slang word?…it should be CAPICE.
Go Campo!
