BOSTON — U.S. Sen. Scott Brown is a handyman and dedicated father who learned early on in his political career that being a Republican in Massachusetts meant forging alliances with anyone willing to work with you.

That’s according to Brown’s wife, former Boston television reporter Gail Huff, who opens up about her marriage with Brown in a profile of the Massachusetts Republican in the April issue of Esquire magazine.

…She also recalled how early on in their relationship Brown confided in her about how he used to write letters to presidents to “give suggestions and thoughts.”

She also said that after she beat him in chess on their honeymoon Brown at first sulked, but then went out and bought an electronic chess set and practiced in secret. She said she’s never won a game since.
