December 26, 2008
SOME of the best and brightest names in Philippine chess converge tomorrow for the 2nd Annual Gathering of Knights and Kings One-Day Blitz Chess Invitational Tournament.
To be held starting 1 p.m. at the Roofdeck of the Prince Gregory Condominium, 105 12th Ave., Cubao, Quezon City, the tournament is a private sector initiative aimed at gathering some of the country’s best international and local chess players and chess lovers, particularly the old-timers, in the spirit of camaraderie and Christmas cheer.
It also aims to bring together the great names of Philippine chess through the generations, from first Asian international master Rudy Cardoso to the current wave of grandmasters led by the young Wesley So, the defending champion of the Players with International Titles Category.
Other tournament categories are for national masters, non-masters, women and businessmen/entrepreneurs.
The tournament is organized by Fianchetto Realty Development Corp. (4396921; 9131737) and Gold Edge Assets Holding Corp., two real estate development companies with a shared passion for developing Philippine chess.
Tournament director is Asia’s first GM Eugene Torre, also the vice president of Fianchetto Realty, while tournament arbiter is Gene Poliarco.
Individual prizes for the various winners and participants were donated by Tito Mendoza of Canada; Enrico Marcale of Glendale, California; Narcing dela Merced of Delta Motors; lawyer Koko Pimentel of Marikina and Cold Rock Ice Creamery, among others.
All invited chess players are requested to confirm their participation through Poliarco or Rudy Ibañes.

Chess is booming in the Philippines thanks to Campomanes.
???Chess is booming in the Philippines thanks to Campomanes.
HAH, HAH, HAH, LMAOL [Laughing My A—s Out Loud]
That is a good Christmas April Fool’s joke, typical of Campo [where in the world is the 12 million pesos from the Filipino people man] and his cohorts, and you anos.
As long as Campo and Abundo are out of the kitty pot of sponsors’ money, things will go well for Philippine chess.
The real credit goes to the new leadership of Pichay, Eugene [palabigasan, used and abused by Campo for years], and most important, all the talented chess Filipino players who unselfishly work hard to bring honor to their country.
And anos, read my lips.
“Chess is booming in the Philippines NO THANKS to Campomanes, the Honorary FIDE Presidential Crook Extraordinaire.”
And anos, Happy New Year and thanks for the really nice joke. Heh, heh, heh.
The same can be said about the US. As long as people like Goichberg is controlling chess, it’ll go nowhere.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the first two posts were posted by the same person!
i would not be surprised if you scugrad wrote them too.
and you must be campo’ censor. he was real good during his power days.
and scugrad, read my lips: people have the right of free speech. so get off your high horse already, and write something useful.
capis, capistrano?
