Your next winner on “Loud Mouthed American Celebrity Type” …. Justin Gimelstob!! Come on down, champ. Gimelstob, a 31-year-old professional tennis player, decided to go off on some semi-profane, on-air rant this week, discussing the lustability factor of various female tennis players and then slanging mud all over Anna Kournikova‘s fine name.
Gimelstob … let rip during an interview on US radio, which included describing Czech star Nicole Vaidisova as “a well developed young lady”, and calling French pin-ups Tatiana Golovin and Alize Cornet “sexpots”.As well as calling Kournikova “a bitch”, he claimed female players “lack the social skills, they don’t go to high school, they don’t go to parties”.
But former world number one [Serena] Williams, who reached the last 16 of Wimbledon on Friday, said Gimelstob’s comments were unnecessary …
“Being pro-women’s rights, I just think we’ve come farther than to be referred to like this,” said Williams.”Anna is a great girl. For anyone to say that about her is not professional. It’s just totally uncalled for.”

What do you think? Is there sexism in sport? Is there sexism in chess? Is Gimelstob right or is this is just one of the things which women have to deal with in general? Please keep it clean.
This is why more women don’t play chess. They don’t want to have to deal with people like Sloan and this dude.
Gobstopper or whatever his name is needs some humilty! He thinks he can say anything that comes to his mind, but mark my words, he will be sorry for them. Perhaps he will be more agreeable when no one wants to see him play tennis anymore. Perhaps he will be more friendly when the only work he can get is endorsing potato peeler commercials late at night with all of the other celebrity has-beens.
Perhaps he will realize his error when one day, heaven forbid, that he has to get a real wage-earning job at Home Depot.
Gimelstob is just mad at these beautiful women because he has always desired to be accepted by the and have been rejeced by them during all of his life.
Now that Gimelstob is popular and rich, he feels like he needs to get revenge on all types of women who have rejected his advances.
IMHO, Gimelstob is just a richer form of Sam Sloan. Always deiring that which he can never have: the repect of women. It is sad, really.
Disgraceful. Uncalled for and completely lacking in taste and grace.
BTW, Susan, not sure if this is the best post for a family blog…
Where are your “s”‘s Incredible Hulk?
You make a good deep analysis of the issue.
IMHO, Gimelstob is simply a jerk.
Best Wishes,
Tigerlily
Ha Ha! I liked the picture of Jar Jar Binks!
He was George Lucas’ failed attempt at veiled racism in his Star War’s movies.
Here are what experts say about Jar Jar and Mr. Lucas:
Some of the most serious criticism of Jar Jar contends that he is a modern incarnation of racist stereotypes used as comic relief in many motion pictures of the first half of the twentieth century. Patricia J. Williams writes that many aspects of Jar Jar’s character are highly reminiscent of the archetypes portrayed in blackface minstrelsy, a theater form prevalent in the United States during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The character actor Lincoln Perry, stage name Stepin Fetchit, often drew hostile criticism from audiences and critics for similar onscreen conduct from his characters.
Jar Jar’s dialect has been described unflatteringly as sounding like Jamaican English; the resemblance is disputed. Lucas spoke about these issues on British television in 1999.[citation needed] Interviewed by Kirsty Wark on the BBC’s political review program Newsnight on July 14 of that year, he countered that criticisms of Jar Jar’s mode of speaking were “…made by people who’ve obviously never met a Jamaican, because it’s definitely not Jamaican and if you were to say those lines in Jamaican they wouldn’t be anything like the way Jar Jar Binks says them.”
Some critics believed that Jar Jar was also stereotypically gay. Satire and criticism about Jar Jar have often suggested that he is gay, either to accuse the film of being homophobic, to accuse the filmakers of promoting a “gay agenda” or to malign the Phantom Menace in general. However, C-3PO, due to his feyish mannerisms, has also been accused of being gay long before Jar Jar. George Lucas stated in an interview that “C-3PO was the pre-Jar Jar”.
“This is why more women don’t play chess. They don’t want to have to deal with people like Sloan and this dude.”
hey, guys don’t want to deal with Sloan either!
what did he actually say (can the conversation be put together?)?
I mean I hate reading articles like this describing what someone said without even quoting a sentence for you to judge for yourself.
On the above comment- I only mean that someone reporting on negative things someone said would tend to be biased to bringing out the worst samples- it is not clear about the context etc.
I am not defending him just saying I like to see all the conversation unaltered to judge for myself.
Just imagine if the other person said lots of negative things about men to fire him up? Supposing he also said some nice things about women that were ignored, and that he might have been referring to a specific story etc.
I think the only think Mr. Gimelstob knows about Ms. Kournikova’s private life is that he isn’t part of it.
Enough said.
well, first of all you women need to stop getting us guys all confused to the point that we don’t kow whether to be nice or Aholes is best, everywhere we go the Aholes who treat women like crap are the ones who are getting all the women just because ‘he’ is handsome and has 10 inches of love (if you know what I mean), start giving nice guys more value and then talk to us about stop sexism in society, because right now we are just confused by you and I bet you will keep getting us confused for as long as we exist, so I say that if I am going to fail with women I will rather do it being an Ahole (that way it does not hurt when I fail)
have a nice day or a horrible day or I don’t care (whatever fits you the best)
yeah Ahole it is, we just saw you go into a compound in texas IN AMERICA with us Aholes
Chess is sexy. Irina is sexy. The chess bitch is sexy. Yes, there is an abundance of sexism in chess.
“…we go the Aholes who treat women like crap are the ones who are getting all the women just because ‘he’ is handsome and has 10 inches of love (if you know what I mean)…”
Yeah, I know what you mean! I have 10 inches of love, 4 yards of understanding, 13 cords of caring, and about a ton of good looks. The women adore me and I love them for it!
Please drive through.
yeah, the only thing I have to say about this is that Dave Chappelle likes to pee on people :-), Ahole it is fellas 🙂

Avast! Ye Ahole-ish squab!
There be ladies watchin’ this here blog! Har! Har!
Have a civil toungue about ye!
Har!
I am what you could call an “anti-overdone-feminist”, BUT…if those tennis players can play, win, be equal part of the sport, it is nobody’s business that they are also happened to be sexy looking. It is certainly not their fault. Especially in tennis, where the presence of a player in a tournament is not nearly as subjective decision making based as in chess. If they reach a certain rating (ranking), their presence is guaranteed in major competitions.
Having said that, it is a well-known fact that good looking female tennis stars get far more media attention, thus far more endorsements, thus make far more money than their less good looking counterparts, even if their tennis achievements are less. Case in point of course is Kournikova, who never won a single title (and I am not only talking about majors, but not ANY), yet she was on the forefront for years.
Is it fair? Yeah, I think it is.

who the heck told you that women care about understanding and caring from men?
you better learn something from the real Aholes players, deep inside women like real stallions who don’t even care about their own mamas or anything else other than themselve
“deep inside women like real stallions who don’t even care about their own mamas or anything else other than themselves”
This is no way to talk about your mamma, son. I do indeed give her a stallion inside when she asks for it. Heh.
Of course there is sexism in sports. In most sports, women have their own tournaments and competitions.
