Say ‘yes’ to chess

Young chess players from around San Luis Obispo County showed off their skills Saturday in the Scholastic March Madness Tournament at Pacheco Elementary School in San Luis Obispo.

The tournament was open to students from kindergarten to 12th grade.

The nonrated section for beginning players was won by Sinsheimer Elementary School student Davis Paul, followed by Ryan Anderson in second place and Pacheco first-grader Nate Browning in third.

The rated section for more experienced players was won by Hawthorne Elementary School student Samuel Sosa followed by Los Osos Middle School student Daniel Quintana. Judith Gottlieb took third place. Click here to see more photos »
