Russian Chess Federation, Tatarstan Ministry of Sport and Tatarstan Chess Federation have organized the 34th Rashid Nezhmetdinov Cup from 25th September to 4th October in Kazan. The tournament also marked the centenary of Nezhmetdinov’s birth.

After nine rounds of play GM Boris Savchenko emerged clear winner of the tournament by collecting 7,0 points and leaving the opposition half a point behind. Savchenko earned 2500 EUR and 16 elo points to revert the negative trend that saw him dropping from 2630 to 2523 in one year.

GM Ildar Ibragimov, who is on the USA rating list but apparently staying in Russia this year, shared the second place with Sergey Grigoriants and Aleksey Goganov. Ibragimov is native of Kazan and the Tatarstan Chess Federation has him listed as the 2nd highest rated player of the Republic.

The total prize fund was 12,400 EUR. There were 10 regular prizes and special prizes for women, juniors and seniors.
