It is a busy time for chess. Adams won the British Championship with a round to spare. B. Socko is leading Tromsø with 2 rounds to go. Three players are leading the Women’s Grand Prix in Mongolia. Two players are leading the Politiken Cup after 8 rounds. The World Junior and World Girl’s Championship are still in the early stage. Marx György Memorial just got underway.
It’s Saturday Open Forum. The forum is yours. What would you like to discuss?
The British Championship had some good games! Adams was always going to win, he’s a high class player. His positional play has always impressed me. Some of the lower rated players played some exciting games. Usually lower rated players like to counter attack, which makes good games. I think players over 2500 stay with the same boring openings (Ruy Lopez, QGD) for fear of losing, yawn! The Sicilian doesn’t seem as popular as the Ruy Lopez these days? Even Anand doesn’t play the Najdorf so much? It would be good for chess to have another Fischer or Kasparov! Maybe more people would watch the games and also attract bigger sponsors! By the way Susan, you look rather lovely in a dress 😉
Susan, are you planning to return soon ?
Looks like USA got only three medals at the Pan American in Brazil. All from Texas and one of each…gold, silver and bronze.
Where’s she returning from?
