How about UCSF politics? Personally, I wish we had a better organization, a more open one.
or…start a new organization…
What would bring me back to competitive play? How about new ideas…
Eliminate the rating system and use something like the USTA (tennis) tourney. You are an A player etc. Knockout rounds etc
No more seedy Reno hotels w/ 2-3 games a day! This isn’t fun its work! And after a 60 hour week, a weekend playing chess like this is not my idea of joy.
Let’s discus: you, Susan Polgar, who you are, your ambitions, are you a nice woman, how beautiful you are, how is it to be a single parent, are you looking for a new relation, all kinds of personal questions, that’s my idea of Saturday Open Forum, but I’m probably wrong and my comment will be deleted :-(.
Peter, good question but everything has a limit.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar

What many of us wonder about, Susan:
Does Szofia still play Chess? What does she do now? I heard you speak about her being an artist (painter, drawings,…) But what about Chess? Is that still in her life?
Just curious…
We all know Judit is a pro top player, and you are very active in promoting Chess, especially helping children,…
But Szofi is such a big mystery to the Chessworld right now… 🙂
Can u please clarify this? Thx so much!!!
Respect to all 3 Polgar sisters!!! No matter what they do now! 🙂
greets,Theo
Sofia is now living in Toronto, Canada. She does not play actively anymore. She is still involved with chess through teaching from time to time.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar

I think FIDE should label GMs who play under 30 moves and agree to a draw as cheaters. This is a shame and the real reason sponsors wont touch chess.
There is a big conference today at the Marshall Chess Club on cheating. It is going to be very good. I hope you can give us a little on what takes place. Obviously most of us can not attend and this sounds like the first serious look at the issue with a definite view toward doing something about it.
I am not in favor of drug testing at all. The conference is concerning the issue of using computers to cheat.
I think USCF has some serious problems but I think the right people can fix things.
FIDE is the one that we need to just dump and start a new organization.
Peter, I think Susan needs some personal private life. Please give her a break. lets keep the discussion on chess to some degree.
I was in Toronto once. Very nice there. Beautiful architecture. Canada is a very nice country. Nice friendly people.
My guess is that NYC is a tough town. People really on the go. I like the quiet slow lifestyle. The density of people is too high for me in any big city.
Why your FIDE rating remains frozen over the years Susan?
You still play chess ,don’t you?Thank you for the answer.

¿Otra vez más se disputará un torneo tan importante en la estepa de su patria? ¿No ha encontrado a ningún otro organizador?
No, lamentablemente no.
He states that he hasn´t found sponsors for the matches next May, not even un Hungary for Peter Leko.
Is this that difficult (30,000USC) in countries with a long time chess life, what can we espect in new introduced chess countries…, what would be the real attraction for sponsors, not only to promote top GM tournements?
My rating remains the same because I do not play actively. There is no point to play unless it is in a meaningful event and it has to make financial sense.
Professional players cannot spend $50,000 to train and hope to win $25,000.
My focus now is to change chess for the better with the USCF and FIDE. My #1 priority is chess and education.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar

Susan,
1) Will you visit Israel soon?
2) What will be your next major tournament?

greetings from Dortmund
Susan will you attend the Pan-Am intercollegiate in Washington DC at the end of this month? Hope to see you there!

Do the Kramnik-FRITZ rules prevent FRITZ creating a 6-man endgame-table during the game?
Given that this is a valid way to do forward-search, I would see it as a sever curtailment of the engine’s ability.

I wonder if you ever got my email with the pictures of 1989 …
I am going to Bonn tomorrow and on Tuesday to see games #5 and 6 and I will be able to attend the press conference, too. More pics are heading your way. 🙂

lets get back to more provocative discussions instead of this love fest over Susan’s activities. How often do we get the chance to discuss important general chess ideals here?
Check out how the USTA rates players. Do you think this same system could be modified for chess??

I just finished reading the CB article on the round table on cheating in chess. I was only a little surprised to note that there were no experts in the electronics or communications necessary to allow this cheating to occur.
As a chess player I would like to think that chess players are smart people, but all evidence is to the contrary…
There are plenty of smart people who are idiots. Just look at the disasters on Wall street and in our gvernment. Playing chess is not a guarantee of being smart – just look at most chess geeks should tell you that!
I think awhile now and once more we return to the root:
Honesty vs. Dishonesty
Good vs. Bad
Right vs. Wrong
Does the end justify the means?
Where is the fine line between acceptable, understandable rule-breaking–such as speeding to the scene of a fire to put it out–versus unacceptable rule-breaking–having a college professor in mathematics take your place at a test and take the test for you in a first year calculus exam? Thus, a sport’s governing body creates rules and regulations which only become meaningful if they be impartially enforced.
Hmmm, perhaps the USCF and FIDE should try “tattlers’ rewards”: If one player exposes another they be rewarded, along with the cheater’s punishment–subject to review by a higher board.
On another hand, more and more, as Bobby Fischer claimed, unlike in real life affairs, chess tends to favor the player with the best memory, rather than the best strategist/tactician.
back to more important topics:
Which is a better laptop purchase – a macbook pro 17 or a Dell XPS?
I have found that the most important thing about a laptop is the support. I find that everything can go wrong on a laptop very easily. You really want super good support to repair the laptop and keep it working.
Just my experience.
Since I am not familiar with the service from various companies I will not make a recommendation on a specific company.
What with programs like parallels.com and bootcamp so you can run Vista, seems to me getting an apple is the way to go next year. Any comments?
Susan,
Is the Kramnik blunder , the worst you ever saw from a grandmaster?
