It’s Saturday Open Forum. The Forum is yours. What would you like to talk about?
Don’t forget that there is only 1 week left to return your ballots for the USCF Executive Board Election. I am sure you already know by now that my recommended choices are the team of Susan Polgar, Mikhail Korenman, Randy Bauer and Paul Truong.
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
You have my vote and so does your team! Please tell me about other qualified candidates. Thanks in advance.
Currently, the Absoulte Continental Tournament of the Americas is taking place in Cali, Colombia. It is a very interesting tournament and after 4 rounds it is being lead in solitary by GM Julio Granda with 4 out of 4 points (sole lead). Links at:

Still 7 rounds to go. The tournament offers 7 places to future World Championship competitions. Susan, one suggestion – why not including daily updates on this tournament in this blog? It is of great interest for chess fan in the Americas at the very least 🙂
I would like to know your opinion about the future of the USCF or US Chess.
How can sponsorship of chess (events, simuls, etc) attract non-uscf members into contributing to the game to benefit society? Thank you.
How many World Championship titles has Judit won, total, including junior, etc.?
I am an elderly chess player, and i grow older, from day to day – and it happens against my will. Be sure, against my will!
I’m from Germany and I am not interested in USCF elections, USCF candidates – frankly spoken, i’m not interested in this USCF stuff at all…
(I hope, politics will be over in a week or so…)
I’m interested in chess only – that’s why i’m here, and why i contribute more or less regularily to this Blog.
Surprisingly i have a CHESS question:
I realized the necessity of endgames knowledge some 40 years ago, when I lost a regular (6 hours) game against an experienced player (hundreds of rating points above me) in an endgame 2 knights + 6 pawns (me) vs. 1 knight + 6 pawns (he). It happened never again…
To do so I was in need to memorize tons of endgame lines. I was in need to MEMORIZE! (a thing I dislike VERY much!) Let me explain: Usually my visualization ability on a full board is quite well (I am not a professional, but usually I’m very hard to beat!), but the less pieces, the more confusion – e.g.: sometimes in a complicated middle game position I’m able to calculate about 20 plys; in a simple King vs. pawn + King endgame 20 plys are an impossible task for me and I start counting moves … The similarity of the resulting positions – ply after ply – is a real handicap for me. Am I alone? Or is this a common problem? And if, is there a cure?
THX a lot for your patience listening my cant – and keep on doing your great job – and may Chaissa end this “moderator on” function after this totally crucial and overwhelming significant USCF election campaign…
greetings
Good luck in the election!
Thanks for this blog!
Yes, like our German friend here said:
Get rid of that moderator function! It is making me leave the page…
