PUNE: K Sasikiran became India’s first player to play 100 games in the Chess Olympiad on Thursday. He beat Uzbekistan’s Dzhumaev in his milestone tie. Sasi was rested in the first round of the championships.

He played 10 straight games thereafter to reach his ‘century’. But he was unaware of the feat because chess stats are not well maintained.

Sasi tallied 7.5 points in 10 games for a rating performance of close to Elo 2725. His own rating is 2669. He has played nine Olympiads in a row, starting in 1998. He has remained among India’s top-four players for the last 16 years.
