Award winners from Rockford Chess Challenge

ROCKFORD – More than 180 students from 28 schools competed at the Rockford Chess Challenge on Saturday, hosted by RESA Middle School.
First-place individual winners

* Kindergarten: Vincent Do (Hillman) with a perfect score.
* First grade (tie): Jonathan Oelkers (King); Parker James Nelson (St. Rita); Matthew Dmochowski (St. Rita).
* Second grade (tie): Yug Mahajan (Montessori Private); Riley Brown (Montessori Private); Joey Rock (King); Kofi Kellum (Montessori Private); Jacob Rief (St. Rita).
* Third grade: Ben Hartman (Ralston) with a perfect score.
* Fourth grade (tie): Sam Rinaldo (King); Keb Kellum (Montessori Private); Asia Keomanivong (King); Douglas Chan (King); Max Alexander (Spectrum).
* Fifth grade (tie): Joshua Day (King); Benji Bear (King).
* Sixth grade: Zachary Larsen (Hallstrom).
* Seventh grade: Caleb Larsen (Hallstrom) with a perfect score.
* Eighth grade: Justin McDonald (Hallstrom) with a perfect score.
