A Turkish elementary student came the second in a European chess championship, his school said on Thursday.

Vahap Sanal, a student of MEV College Ozel Guzelbahce Elementary School, won silver medal in U-13 category in the European Schools Individual Chess Championship in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Sanal won Candidate Master title when he was 10, and became the world champion of U-11 category in the World Chess Championship in Singapore in 2008.

Vahap Sanal will represent Turkey in the world championship in July.
