I expect them to behave like you and be role models to younger players. Unfortunately, most of them are not.

To play games and/or write articles and commentaries on chess so that those in the ‘chess community’ (an awfully amorphous term) can benefit from a persual of them.
That’s the artistic answer. The nitty-gritty answer is that they have no role, other than to support/supplement themselves.

How about behaving professionally? How about being nice to the younger players and showing good conduct? How about not being primadonnas? How about being more fan friendly?

I would like chess pros to promote the game more. To sponsor more events, simuls, other attractions.
Especially simuls. They are such crowd pleasers.
I expect them to be nicer to the patzer players. Too many professionals forgot that they were once beginners too.
