Chess: Qatar ready for Asian Indoor Games

Doha: Grandmasters Mohammed Al Medaihki, Chen Zhu and Mohammed Al Sayed will lead Qatar’s challenge at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Incheon Korea, the Qatar Chess Federation (QCF) informed here yesterday.

The 10-member squad also comprises of International Master Husain Aziz Nezad.

The other members of the squad are Salama Al Khelaifi and Aisha Al Khelaifi, both of whom will represent Qatar in the women’s section along with Zhu.

In May, Zhu won the women’s title at the 2013 FIDE-rated Asian Zone 3.1 Championship, held in Doha and thus gained qualification for the World Cup scheduled to be held in Norway in August this year.

The 37-year-old also won the bronze medal at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha in the Women’s Individual event.

QCF informed that Hamad Al Hamad Al Tamimi, will accompany the team as Manager for men’s team and, Amal Al Mannai, will be the Manager for the women’s team.

Victor Bologan and Ioulia Ryjanova are the two coaches who will make the trip to Korea along with the squad.

The AIMAG will be held over eight days in Incheon, from June 29 to July 6.

The AIMAG will feature 12 disciplines including Aquatics, Billiards Sports, Bowling, Chess, Baduk, Dance Sports, Electronic Sports, Football, Futsal, Kabaddi, Kickboxing, Kurash and Muay.
 
Around forty five Asian countries will be taking part in the AIMAG in Korea they include: Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Philippines, Bahrain, Korea, Qatar, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bhutan, Kyrgyzstan, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Laos, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Lebanon, Syria China, Macau, Chinese Taipei, DPR Korea, Malaysia, Tajikistan, Hong Kong, Maldives, Thailand, Independent Olympic Athletes, Mongolia, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Myanmar, Turkmenistan, Iran, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Oman, Uzbekistan, Japan, Pakistan, Vietnam, Jordan Palestine and Yemen.
