2 positions are similar,but I am confused!!
I finally found 1 Re8 Kf7 2 Rh8! (for 10 minutes I could see nothing better than 2 Re1 kg8 =)
c1=Q 3 Kh2 Qc3 4 Rh7 Ke8 5 Rd7 Qd4 6 Nd4 Kd7 7 Nc6 and White’s h pawn will queen. There are other defenses for black than 3…Qc3 but I am pretty sure everything wins for White.
-Justin Daniel
I think 1. Ng5 is the move. Then
1. … c1=Q+
2. Kh2 Rc7
3. Qxd5+ Kf8
4. Nxh7+ Qxh7
5. Qd8+ Kf7
6. Re7+ picking up the queen and continuing the attack.
it’s very difficult, the only line I have found start this way: 1.Re8+,Kf7. 2.Tc1, it can be draw for repetion.
For starters 1.Ng5 doesn’t wins since black can play 1…Rc8 (stoping all white’s attack) and winning next with 2…c1(Q)
I think Justin was on the right track with:
1.Re8+ Kf7
2.Rh8!
(threating mate with 3.Rh7+ Ke6 4.Qe5+ Kf7 5.Ng5#. If black tries to defend with his quuen: 2…Qf5 then…3.Qg7+ Ke7 4.Re8+ Kd7 5.Qe7#. Or with his rook: 2…Rf6 3.Rh7+ Ke8 4. Qe5+ Kd8 [4….Re6 5.Qh8# ] 5.Qb8+ Qc8
6.Rh8+ Kd7 7.QxQ Nc4 8.Rd8+ Kf7 9.Ng5+ Kd7 10.Qd7#]
So black has only one defence and that is:
2….c1(Q)+
3.Kh2 Qc3(to stop mate)
4.Rh7+ Ke8
(4…Kg8 5.RxQ QxQ 6.NxQ and white is clearly winning.. ex: 6…Rc5 7.Ne6 and black can’t stop 8.h7+ Kh8 9.Ng5. Or if 6….Ra6 7.Nf3 and with the same idea)
5.Qh8+ QxQ
6.RxQ+ Ke7
7.Rh7+ Ke8
8.RxQ KxQ
9.Ne5+ Kd6
10.NxR KxR
11.h8(Q)
1. Re8+ Kf7 2. Qg7+ KxR 3. Qg8# or
1. Re8+ QxR 2. Qg7#
Its not that difficult after all..
1.Re8+ Kf7 2.Qg7+ Kxe8 3.Qg8#
Well, if you tell your opponent that 3.Qg8+ is mate, maybe he’ll believe you and not notice 3…Ke7.
