#1 ranked team since inception in August 2012. The team has never relinquished the #1 ranking.
In the first year, Webster won 4 matches while tying 2 (vs. UTD and Webster B team) at the 2012 PanAm InterCollegiate Chess Championship to tie for 1st, to qualify for the Final Four. The team then swept UTD, UMBC, and U of Illinois 3-0 to win the 1st Final Four Championship by a record 2.5 point margin.
In the second year, Webster went 6-0 to win the 2013 PanAm InterCollegiate Chess Championship by a full point, and qualified for the Final Four again. The team then swept TTU, UMBC, and U of Illinois 3-0 to win back to back Final Four Championships by a record tying 2.5 point margin, while completing the perfect season of 9-0.
Webster University A team has never lost a single match in 2 years!
It is cruel to make the players hit the gym. They should eat donuts all day and do nothing.
It’s brilliant to have the players use the gym – a healthy body = a healthy and sharp brain. More players would do well to remember it!
