Andrey Filatov, President of the RCF, said: “I am delighted that chess has demonstrated to the world Russia’s qualities as a host of large sporting events, adding to the reputation gained from the outstanding level of organisation at the Winter Olympics 2014. We at the RCF are truly thankful to Carlsen and Anand for their many kind words about Russia and Sochi, leaving us in no doubt that the match was a success. I am grateful to the players for choosing chess and Russia over geopolitics, and for agreeing to play in the beautiful city of Sochi which has gained an extremely strong reputation as a host of sporting events. This outstanding event was enhanced even further by the stunning summer-like weather, enabling all to enjoy the sun and sea despite it being held in November.”
