You don’t give yourself enough credit. 1.Ng5+ Kg6 2.Qf7+ Kxg5 3.Qxg7+ Kh5 4.Qxh7+ is a lot better than a perpetual; it’s mate next move.
Only 1) Ng5+! wins with the above-mentioned variation.
At 1) Nd8+ there is the defence 2) Kh6! holding the mate.
