It’s a forced mate.
1. Nb5+ cxb5
2. Bxe5+ Kc6
3. Rd6+ Bxd6
4. exd6+ Kd5
5. Rc5#
I remember this one. I don’t remember if I found Ne6+ so quickly then, but it should jump out at one due the cutting of the e8 rook’s protection of the e5 knight, and that the fact that the c8 square is no good for black’s king due to the knight fork from b6- with mate in some lines if white has already captured at e5:
1. Ne6 Re6
If black tries Kb8, white replies with 2.Be5 winning a piece. If black tries Kc8, white can fork from b6, but might do even better by threatening mate by putting in Be5 first. Also, if black tries fe6, white takes at e5 with check, and black will have to play Bd6 to prevent mate on Nb6. Continuing:
2. Be6 and with the knight hanging at e5 means that black is going to end up down an exchange at a very minimum.
1. Ne6! should do the trick.
Correction: the previous line is buggy. Didn’t see that black’s N on e5 is protected by the R on e8.
So the first move has to be 1. Ne6+
1. Ne6+ Rxe6
2. Bxe6
Now, if
2. … fxe6
3. Bxe5+ Kc8
4. Nb6+ wins
but
2. … Neg4
3. Bxg4 Nxg4
4. h3 Nf6
5. Be5+ Nc8
6. Nb6#
1. Ne6+ is obvious, since the threat Bxe5+ is decisive in all lines. White seems to win at least quality.
1. Ne6+ fxe6??
2. Bxe5+ Kc8
3. Nb6#
Enforced for black seems:
1. … Rxe6
2. Bxe6
Since now fxe6 is the same as above, black must play his Ne5 knigh, but where?
2. … Nef3+?
3. exf3 fxe6??
Shit, again Be5+ and Nb6# to follow.
Ned3 or Ned7 still to try.
2. … Ned3
3. exd3 fxe6
4. Be5+ Kd7 (Kc8 Nb6+ Kd8 dxe4+ Ke7)
5. dxe4+ Ke7
6. Bd6+ Kd8
7. Bxf8+ etc.
Now, enforced seems:
1. Ne6+ Rxe6
2. Bxe6 Ned7
3. Bxd7/Bxf6/Bh3
white up with quality, at least.
May be something even better that I didn’t see?
To aam@fics:
What is so enforced with:
1. Nb5+ cxb5 (that’s enforced, ok)
2. Bxe5+ Kc6??
2. … Rxe5
and white is simply down with a piece…
Its not. Black has 2…R:e5
Right move is 1.Ne6+
1Ne6+
1. Nxe6+ and black loses materiel or is mated.
