22 year old Dmitry Jakovenko is not a name in chess that you often hear about. However, he is a player to watch. I first met him in January 2005 in Montreal at the MonRoi event. He won the 10 person RR event (6 GMs and 4 IMs) scoring 8/9 (7 wins and 2 draws)! He surpassed the 2600 mark at that event and he continued to skyrocket since then. Beside being a very good player, Dmitry is also a very nice and down to earth individual, one of the nicest GMs I know in chess.

He is very solid and a true fighter on the board. I expect many good things from Dmitry in 2006 and beyond. Dmity is currently tied for first at the 2005 Russian Championship ahead of Kramnik, Svidler, Morozevich, Bareev, Khalifman, and Dreev, etc. Posted by Picasa
