OK, so the white queen is under attack, and can’t join in the fun through h5 because of the knight. So we need to involve the queen either by avoiding h5 or attacking the king through a different route. It is always nice to start these sequences with a forced move, so Rh8+ looks good for starters, forcing KxRh8. Now the queen can get in to the action qith Qh1+, and black cannot defend the coming mating attack. 1. Rh8+ Kxh8 2. Qh1+ Nh5 (… Kg8, 3. Qh7+ Kg8, 4. Qh8 #) 3. QxNh5+ Kg7 (…Kg8 Qf7, 4. Qh7#) 4. Qf7+ Kh8 (or Kh6) 5. Qh7#

1. Rh8+ Kxh8
2. Qh1+ Nh5
(… Kg8, 3. Qh7+ Kg8, 4. Qh8 #)
3. QxNh5+ Kg7
(…Kg8 Qf7, 4. Qh7#)
4. Qf7+ Kh8 (or Kh6)
5. Qh7#
I think this is the only one of Susan’s puzzles that I solved.
1. Rh8+ Kxh8
2. Qh1+ Nh5
3. Qxh5+ Kg8
4. Qh7+ Kf8
5. Qh8#
or following the line of pwjw after 3…Kg7, 4.Qh7+ Kf6 5.Qg6++
please give more and more pattern recognition so that I can solve them!!
1.Rh8+ Kxh8
2.Qh1+ (2..Kg8
3.Qh7+ Kf8
4.Qh8#)
more patterns ?
Th8 and 2. Qh1 🙂
Rh8+ wins
