Chess and Football connection
By Tom Pedulla, USA TODAY
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — New England Patriots running back Laurence Maroney is such an avid chess player that he is a member of a city-wide club in his hometown of St. Louis and plays games via cellphone in his spare time.
“One thing about chess, when you make a move, you are not moving for right now. You are moving to set up something else,” Maroney says. “I look at chess just like I’m playing football.”
