The 3rd Panama Chess Open is starting today at 19h local at the Salón Corotu, Hotel Central Park in Ciudad de Panamá.

The tournament will be played over nine rounds of Swiss system with accelerated pairings and continues until 5th November.

The total prize fund is $10,000. Top prizes are $2500-1500-1000-500-400-300-200-100.

The additional events include lectures, seminars, simultaneous exhibitions and blitz tournament with $1000 in prizes.

Last year winner GM Eric Hansen will not defend the title because he is currently playing in Magistral Ciudad de Barcelona.

The tournament is organized by Jose Carrillo Pujol and chief arbiter is Barbara Lopez Chavez.
