Being named a managing director at one of Wall Street’s most prestigious firms is a proud day indeed for any banker. But for one of Morgan Stanley’s new 232 MDs, the achievement has been ever-so-slightly overshadowed by a five-year old, chess-playing godson.

Traian Carabas was in late January named among Morgan Stanley’s largest crop of managing directors since 2007. He was one of 61 New York-based bankers to be elevated to the position. For a full list, click here [ http://www.efinancialnews.com/story/2011-01-28/morgan-stanley-mds-2011 ].

However, according to an email that dropped into Financial News’s inbox from his sister Liliana, Carabas’s achievement has not been the only one of note for the family recently. In the same week, Traian’s godson Jonathan Manta, 5, took the prize for top scoring kindergartner at the Annual Greater New York Scholastic City Chess Tournament, while brother Michael, 8, took fourth place in the K-3 section.

Names to watch out for in the future, perhaps.
