On the life front:

He transferred chess affiliation from the Philippines to the USA. During the last Olympiad in Norway Wesley did not play for his native country but went to Tromso nevertheless as Coach of the US team.

In December, Wesley quit college to play chess professionally.

Wesley So is only 22 years old but his genius has forced him to take hard decisions which will affect the rest of his life. Let us all just hope that he has a mentor, a good person who will advise him honestly without any personal agenda.

Wesley’s first international tournament in 2015 will be starting tomorrow in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands. The Tata Steel Chess Tournament 2015 counts among its participants the world champion Magnus Carlsen, World no. 2 Fabiano Caruana, not to say anything about Levon Aronian, Anish Giri, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Teimour Radjabov, Radoslaw Wojtaszek, Baadur Jobava, Ding Liren, Vassily Ivanchuk, Ivan Saric, Hou Yifan and Loek Van Wely. This will be a great opportunity to gauge just where Wesley So stands among the chess elite.
