This is the first open forum for the US Chess Discussion Blog. Please feel free to share your opinions or perhaps frustrations with the performance of the current board members. What are some of the pros and cons in their performances? What are you looking for with the next board? Perhaps you even have questions for them? I will forward all legit questions to the board and give them a chance to respond. All inappropriate posts will be automatically deleted. Thanks!

Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
I’m having quite a few posts deleted. They are civil, at least I think so. They don’t agree with your positions and are sometimes mildly critical of you — not personally, but critical of the way you are conducting your campaign for USCF Executive Board.
So, I would appreciate your saying more about what constitutes an “inappropriate” post. Should I not be trying to use comments in your blog to engage you in discussion about your positions on USCF issues?
This is a sincere post. Please don’t delete it.
Posts that do not pass the blog guidelines will be deleted. Polgar has been very consistent. She won’t let Sloan’s supporters to come here and lie. For that, they can go to the USCF forum.
For those who complain that they are having posts deleted wrongfully, I have a simple suggestion. Why not put copies of your deleted posts on the forum so we can see them for ourselves and judge accordingly. Trouble is we have to trust you on that. Sloan’s supporters have a very bad track record on honesty.
More to the point, why are you posting annonymously in the first place? I don’t. In fact, I’ve posted things that have been very critical of Susan. Didn’t get deleted.
So for you anonymous posters that are complaining about your deleted posts, I think you have some explaining to do before you expect sympathy from the rest of us.
Jack,
When in doubt, any questionable anonymous posting will be deleted. I can usually see the trend of these questions, to attack other candidates and praising Sloan.
The Executive Board allows Sloan to lie and deceive USCF members of the USCF forum, it will not happen here.
Even though Sloan has been banned, he still comes here to post daily and all his posts were deleted.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar

One other thought. I sent in stuff for Susan to put on her blog and she wouldn’t publish it. So I went to the USCF Forum and posted it there instead (see “Pact with the Devil”). You don’t see me complaining.
*** No good, rascally bumkin, rejecting my deathless prose, the greatest piece of literary writing since Mark Twain, stupid idiot ***
Anyway, you don’t see me complaining. Not me. Perhaps, that’s because I’m so humble. – Or something.
After some of my posts were deleted, Susan wrote that she had deleted posts from Sloan supporters. There were some other posts that I didn’t write; perhaps she meant those.
Thing is: I am not a Sloan supporter at all. The only thing in my posts that might have given anybody the idea that I am Sloan supporter was that I drew some parallels between Sloan’s campaign last year and Susan’s campaign. I also made the statement that one of the reasons Sloan is opposed by insiders at the USCF is that he asks awkward questions, including questions about Susan. He is a professional gadfly, and that has its pluses and minuses. But not everything that Sloan does is outrageous. I didn’t vote for him and won’t be voting for him, but I don’t think that the people who did vote for him were out of their minds. I don’t know how stating any of that makes somebody a Sloan supporter, why not being a 100% Sloan opponent would make someone persona non grata in the comments threads of this blog.
I post anonymously because it is an option on the blog. If the rule is that you can’t be critical unless you identify yourself.
Incidentally, I tried to join the USCF Issues forum, but it kept telling me that the email address that was registered on my USCF account had to match the email on my USCF Forums account (why the two aren’t the same isn’t obvious). But they are the same. I tried several times. I also tried to contact the admin for the forums, and never got a reply. So, it seems like the USCF is trying to keep members out of that forum.
You must have asked some stupid question?
So what is your name and USCF ID number?
it is free to make an account, so why bother whining about anonymous posts being deleted? Many readers would prefer not to have any anonymous posts at all. I don’t care what your real name is, but you should at least have some internet handle to be identified by. If it was my blog, I would spend much less time analyzing anonymous posts than user posts. When in doubt, throw it out. If there is a username attached, then it is easier. You can consider all of users posts in general, and decide if they have an opposing viewpoint, or are just being disruptive/rude. If it is a waste of time to consider it deeply.
If you are a uscf member you can post on the forum. Maybe you are in error about the email address.
First go online and set your email address. then after that give it a little time and then try to open an account so you can post.
You can reset your email. Go do it. It only takes a minute automatically over the internet.
then try to open an account for posting. this might take a few days. You have to wait for an email coming back confirming.
It is a little bothersome but it does eventually work.
Once you get on you can read all the postings by Sam Sloan and then you will know. I only logged on about 2 weeks ago and he blows me away. The guy is so destructive.
I can guess that there is no email address on record for you right now. I agree you should simply go and set your email address first and then open an account to post.
it would be nice to see the uscf get some big name sponsors like intel. maybe even a tv deal on discovery channel. where we can watch strong players. theres so much junk on tv you would think chess would have some kind of an audience. it could surely compete with food or motorcycle programs. this is what I would want from the uscf candiates. promoting the game through strong sponorships and tv deals. money is always the name of the game.

How do you get sponsors when Sam Sloan is attacking and insulting all our supporters and sponsors? Get real!
“Incidentally, I tried to join the USCF Issues forum, but it kept telling me that the email address that was registered on my USCF account had to match the email on my USCF Forums account (why the two aren’t the same isn’t obvious). But they are the same. I tried several times.”
I had exactly the same problem. It turns out that the USCF stores your email address in two locations. One location is on the “beta” (new) web site, but that’s not the one used to verify your registration on the forums. You have to go to
http://www.uschess.org/index1.php
then select the MEMBERS ONLY link near the top of the page, login, then select the Change your e-mail address and TLA Mail settings link. The email address on this page has to match the one you supply with the registration. Hope this helps.
Thank you for the information. I will check into it immediately. I must say these USCF web sites seem to have been done very poorly. I say this as professional web developer who has been working full-time developing web sites since 1996. It isn’t so easy to find people who have been working on web sites longer than me, even if I do say so myself. 🙂 Jennifer Shahade seems to be a nice person and is apparently a very good chess player. But I’m afraid she isn’t a very good web designer.

I’m sure many other people have had the same problem — the site really needs better instructions.
While I agree that the web site badly needs improvement, keep in mind that it’s a “work in progress”. We’re in the middle of moving from the “old” website to the “new” website. One problem is that we have to do it cheaply.
If you think the current situation is bad, you should have seen the OLD website. It was hardly what we should have wanted as the “public face” of the USCF. At least we’re continuing to improve. I just noticed a whole new group of web pages moved to the “new” site this morning.
One minor correction: Jennifer Shahade provides web site CONTENT, not web design. The USCF did have a professional company working on web design, but their contract was terminated (about half-way through the process, as far as I can tell).
As long as things keep improving, I won’t complain TOO much… 🙂
