Open Chess Tournament Mediterranean 2017

The Chess Club “Rijeka” organises the 4th open chess tournament “Mediterranean 2017” from 13 November to 20 November 2010 in the city of Rijeka, located at the North-west part of the Croatian coast of the Adriatic sea.
The manifestation is organised for the occasion of the candidacy of the city of Rijeka for organisation of the Mediterranean Games in 2017, under the motto “Chess with the scent of the sea”, and with the idea to promote companionship and cooperation of chess players and chess federations of the Mediterranean countries.
The President of the Republic of Croatia, Ivo Josipović, has accepted to be a sponsor of the chess tournament, while the Primorsko-Goranska County and the City of Rijeka are the co-sponsors. Rijeka was also the host of the 2010 European Individual Chess Championships.
The playing venue is Chess Club “Rijeka” premises, with 650 square meters of space at Blaža Polića Street 2/2. Tournament system is Swiss with 9 rounds and time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one.
The total prize fund of 14 000 € will be distributed in two playing groups.
The “A” Group (for players rated above 2200 FIDE) prize fund amounts to 10 000 Euro, for 12 ordinary and 6 special prizes.
