Providence Oatlhotse

Botswana’s only International Master, IM Providence Oatlhotse recently competed and won the Tsogo Millionaire Satellite Chess Tournament in South Africa.

The event was a qualifier for the Millionaire Chess Tournament to be hosted in Las Vegas USA where the winner walks away with 1million USD cash prize.

Oatlhotse emerged the champion in South Africa, after beating IM Johannes Mabusela of South Africa and Chitumbo Mwali of Zambia during playoffs.

The play offs were hosted to break the ties after the 3 players emerged top with 8 points each.

Oatlhotse has now qualified for an all expenses paid trip by organisers to USA in Las Vegas to compete at the Millionaire tournament from 8 – 12 October 2015.

IM Oatlhotse now stands a chance to win US$1,000,000.00 in USA Chess Extravaganza.

There is no doubt that Oatlhotse will go on to give out the best of his performances in USA after winning a tournament which was full of thrills and spills in South Africa.

The event was the first of its kind, as IM Oatlhotse started off the tournament on a high note bagging maximum points from the onset and never looked back.

Oatlhotse did not struggle to sail through his opponents and scored six wins in a row before drawing against IM Mwali In round 8.

Oatlhotse played against all odds and beat Zimbabwean IM Rodwell Chitumbo and further went on to beat South African IM Mabusela in a classical encounter to force a play-off.

It was only at 9PM, Sunday night when IM Oatlhotse emerged victorious in a tough blitz match against IM Mabusela and booked himself a ticket to the US.

After winning the prestigious chess tournament an elated Oatlhotse took to social media (face book) to express his gratitude saying,

‘Oh! What a feeling, Beings! I can have it all now, I am dancing for my life. Take your passion, make it happen!”

Oatlhotse will represent Africa together with Fide Master Harold Wanyama and IM Bunmi Olape at the main event in October.
